Child Laborers Children can be seen on the roads, streets, Dhabas working as laborers in every city or small town of India. Child labor is a menace as it harms the normal mental and physical growth of the children and also grab the much needed time for them for playing and learning which is very necessary for the their development. This menace also paves the way for the exploitation of the children by their employers. Child laborers are abused, ill treated and are even up by the employers. This is not only done by the employers but also by the people with whom they come into contact.
Major Problem Indian government has made laws to tackle the problem. Engaging children under the age of 14 years is a serious offense according to the law. But the situation is so grim that people consider that the law does not, in it self a solution to the problem. There are many social and economic problems that force the children to work in the objectionable conditions. Children are forced to work, some times, even by their parents. Some children work as a hobby or to help their parents at work. Sometimes some children, at their own will, work as part time to earn some extra money. In these cases they, their parents or their employers can not be considered guilty of committing an offense. These are some simple circumstances that can be ignored But what can be done when a children is an orphan, having no food, clothes and home. If such child is prohibited from working then rules that prohibit him from doing so, in itself are against their existence and can starve them, then who will be held guilty for it.
Laws It is necessary for every country to provide its citizens appropriate opportunities to grow and develop mentally and physically. If there are children, having no parents then it is the duty of the government and the society to establish for them necessary infrastructure that is necessary for their development and will guide and educate them to become good citizens of the country .Merely by making laws the problem of child labor can not be solved. It needs a unified movement to be initiated, in which social welfare groups and organizations and government should be involved, and that should be a long term movement. Preference should be given to vocational education and training and the education system should be of such kind that children should earn while learning .This problem can not be solved fully, but the rules can be made to for the child laborers that can save them from exploitation and can also provide them with the ‘right to work’.
