Opposition of Nuclear Deal in India

Meeting The much awaited meeting between (UPA and Left committee) was postponed and will be held on June 25.But the sources say that it is not the postponement but the cancellation as the left had never accepted the deal in the present terms and wanted the government not to pursue the deal. The meeting was called of when the left leaders learned that the Manmohan Singh government has decided to go ahead with the nuclear even without the permission of Left parties. In the past few days several rounds of talks have been held between the top left and UPA. Government had been trying to persuade its outside supporters to allow it to seal the safeguards agreement during the upcoming meeting of IAEA Board of Governors. But the Left leaders kept on consistently rejecting the plea. But the Prime minister has taken a stand to go ahead with the deal at any cost.   Relations Sources say that the government had realized that the marriage of convenience between the Congress and the Left had lost its utility and there was very little point left to prolong the alliance as it became obvious that Left is weakening in its bastion, West Bengal where it had faired badly in the Panchayat elections. Left’s continuous criticism of the government on the issues of price rise and fuel price hike had further soured the relations. As the Prime Minister has decided to go ahead with the nuclear deal in spite of the opposition of its Left allies the fate of the UPA government is also looking fraught. Future India is a fast emerging economy that needs more energy for its consistent growth. India imports most of the fuel from outside. It is very necessary for an economy like India to be self dependent in the field of energy and India-US nuclear deal is the opportunity that cannot be missed out and it would be “unfortunate” if the agreement falls through.” Government comes and goes. Nuclear power is a requirement and assets must be created for our next generation”.

PLA Incursions into Indian Territory

Relations Border disputes have kept India and China, both the countries, against each other for many decades. Both the countries have even fought a war that kept disrupted the normal ties between both of the countries for many years. Though both of the nations have shed most of their differences and have agreed to solve all their disputes through dialog the things are not quite at all on the India-China border. Frequent incursions into the India territory along the Line of Actual Control by the People’s Liberation Army of China are the issue that has always troubled the relations between both of the countries.   Incursions It is the Style of the PLA to assert their claim on the areas that are the territory of India. For last six month more than 65 incursions have been reported into the Finger Area in Sikkim .There is a possibility of such transgressions by PLA, could develop into a major row between the two neighbors. Recently a major confrontation, by the senior officers from an Indian patrol team was averted, with their timely intervention. Most of such incidents happen because of different perceptions among the Indian and Chinese sides as to what constitutes the border. China has intensified their military activities near the LAC. Though China had in 2005 recognized Sikkim as part of India the fresh incursions may be the part of the long time Chinese design.   Incident On June 16 PLA personal were chased out by the Indian forces that had entered up to a kilometer of Indian territory in the Finger area of Sikkim. Security reinforcement and military backed by the air force was rushed to the area to counter any further Chinese aggression. Union Minister of State for Defense M M Pallam Raju said in New Delhi that “the issue of incursions will be raised at the next flag meeting (between Indian Army and PLA) and also will be discussed at appropriate highest level. As two responsible neighbors, we will sort it out”.   India and China are the emerging economies of the world and there is a lot that depends on the peaceful relations between both of the countries. There are many fields in which they can learn from and help each other. Such kind of disputes has their importance but they can be handled separately. Such kind of issues should not be allowed to derail the [...]

Media Obsession with Aarushi Murder Case

Investigations Though Congress led UPA government has not succeeded to get the crucial support of its left allies on the matter of the Indo-US nuclear deal the Indian media has succeeded in testing successfully its own created ‘nuclear bomb’ Aarushi murder case for last so many days and has every time have kept the people involved with the ongoing ‘testing’. It seems from the developments as if media have discovered more than the Investigating agency. Even rumors regarding the case become the headlines of the newspapers. People have gotten knowledge of every kind of the tests done by CBI during the investigation of a case and the credit goes to media for its ‘inventive’ coverage of the investigation process.   Media For the general people there are only two topics that consume most of their time throughout the day. First is Aarushi murder case and the second is Indo-US nuclear deal. Media is presenting Aarushi murder case as it itself is investigating the case and the investigation agency is merely following the path shown by it. Every little development in the investigation is being presented in the form of a TV serial. Media has polluted the mind of common man to such an extent that if one asks the other, “ what will happen next” regarding the Indo-US nuclear deal, the later starts to predict about the possible results of Aarushi murder case investigations. It looks as if nothing important is happening in the country except the ongoing investigation in the Aarushi murder case. It is the Indian media that can make a simple person most popular even after its death. Other Options There are many other incidents happening that are very important and should be covered with full care. There are many other issues as border disputes, militancy, internal political and social problems, international developments etc. Why Indian media is so much obsessed with Aarushi Murder case? When CBI is investigating the Case then media should do its own ‘job’. Many people have suffered a lot because of media’s unnecessary intervention into the case. It is very right that on the initiative of media the free and fare investigation process could become possible but there are many others who have not yet got justice instead of repeated efforts for years. Media should come ahead for them. Thus it will get more ‘massala’ and the people may get justice.   [...]
