Gandhi Family Rahul Gandhi is the heir of India’s most prominent political family, the Gandhi Family. His great grandfather was the first Prime Minister of India. His grandmother Mrs. Indira Gandhi was a renowned political leader who has also remained the Prime Minister of India till her assassination. After the death of his grandmother Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Rahul’s father Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister of India in 1984. was also assassinated by the LTTE. After the death of Rajiv Gandhi though Congress for some years ruled India but its power also decreased. Though their were many veteran leaders in the Congress but it was lacking a charismatic leader who could attract masses.   Leaderless P.V Narsimha Rao and Seeta Ram Kesri headed the Congress for some years but on ground level its political base kept on shrinking and performed its worst in the elections fought during their time. When wife of late Shri Rajiv Gandhi joined Congress it found a leader who could attract masses. Later on her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra also joined the party that further put the Congress on track to achieve its old glorious days. Though, presently there are only 159 MPs who have been elected on the Congress ticket but next elections indicate that Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi will perform well as compared to the previous elections.   Young Leader Rahul Ghandi brought with him a fress air that revitalized the dying Congress. Born on 19 June 1970 this young politician represent his Grandmother’s favorite Amethi seat. He entered into politics in March 2004 when he successfully fought the MP elections. Presently he is general secretary of All India Congress Committee and also heads Youth Congress and National Students Union of India. He and his sister campaigned for their mother Sonia Gandhi during the reelection to the Rai Bareilli seat in 2006. People o f India once again noticed the coming of old glorious day of Congress when Gandhi family led the country towards achievement of n-energy despite stiff resistance by the opposition. It is also being expected that in the coming years he could be the Prime Ministerial candidate of Congress in the elections.
