Ahmadabad Following Bangalore, Ahmadabad became the next target of serial bomb blasts planted by the militants. These twin strikes by militants at weekend took the whole nation by surprise. 17 bomb blasts rocked the Ahmadabad on Saturday. Numbers of dead kept on rising as there were many critically wounded people who succumbed to their injuries lator on. But the worst attack was waiting for the innocent people in the government civil hospital. When the injured were being brought to the hospital and there was a huge rush, the bomb went of that was planted in a car inside the hospital. According to the witnesses more than 25 people died in the blast.
Indian Mujahidin Militants had used the same technique as they had used the previous day. Bombs were planted at the most populous places and were timed to blast at the rush hours to maximize the death toll. A group that has named itself ‘ Indian Mujahidin’ has taken the responsibility of triggering the bomb blasts. But intelligence sources say that it is the changed name of SIMI. Militants had planted and timed the bombs in such a manner that the damage could be maximized. At some places there were two bombs planted with separate timings. When people rushed to help the injured people the second bomb used to blast.
Lessons This was the second major terrorist strike after the Jaipur blasts. It also indicated the failure of state and central secret agencies to track the culprits in advance. Bur what surprised the nation most was that on the next day two abandoned cars full of bombs and about nine live bombs planted at separate places were found in the Surat city. It was the timely information that prevented the major catastrophe. But it could become possible only because of the active support of the local public to the police. Militants used every means to rise tensions between the two communities. But public has shown maturity and have understood the motifs of the militants. It has also shook the intelligence agencies to change according to the time and not to act according to their perceptions. It has also forced the government to think seriously about how to increase co-operation between all the investigation agencies. Shurly, public, intelligence agencies and the government have learnt some lessons to avoid the disaster in future.
