India Lose Test Series to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka With the half centuries of Skipper Mahela Jayawardene and Malinda Warnapura,in the seond inning, Sri Lanka has won the third and final test match from India with the margin of eight wickets remaining. And with it they have won the three test match series from India with the margin of 2-1. Both the Sri Lankan batsmen completed their half centuries as  Mahela Jayawardene made 50 runs and M.  Warnapura remained not out with the score of 54.

Day First Batting first, India had made 249 runs in the first inning that included opener G. Gambhir’s knock of 72 runs. Ajantha Mendis was the most successful Lankan bowler as he took 5 Indian wickets and game only 56 runs in the first inning. India had lost three wickets for 104 till the lunch time on day first and all the damage was done by Lankan fast bowler D. Prasad. The remaining two wickets were taken by Muralidharan. It was once again that the Indian middle order failed to perform well.

Second Day Day two did  brought only wretched fortune to India as three of its main players got injured. Sri Lankan scored 251 runs for six gaining a lead of 2 runs on day two. Sri Lanka has made 396 runs in their first inning that included a solid century by Kumar Sangakara. Harbhajan Singh, Skipper Kumble and Zaheer took three Sri Lankan wickets each and the remaining one wicket was taken by Ishant Sharma. But one the third day it had become clear that India is going to loose the series as it was struggling at 165/5 when third day’s play ended.

Fourt Day Rahul Dravid and injured VVS Laxman resisted to some exent as both of the Indian batsmen made half centuries in the second inning of the match. It was the only recognized pair of batsmen that could steer away the victory from the hands of Lankans. Indian batting also suffered because of injuries to Laxman, Sachin and Ishant Sharma. India lost its last two wickets as none of them resisted well. Indian batsmen could made only 268 runs in their second inning and Laxman remained not out for 61 runs and he also completed his 6000 runs in the test cricket. The other leading Indian run scorer in India’s second inning was Dravid who made 68 runs. India has gained only the lead of 121 runs and Sri Lankan easily achieved the target only with the loss of 2 wickets.
