Michael Phelps- World Records’ Machine in Swimming Events
article written by krishna.
Record Michael Phelps became one of the only five athletes who have won nine Olympic gold medals. He won three gold medals in Beijing Olympics on August 12, 2008 in swimming and with it has become the record holder. There are eight swimming events in which he had qualified to compete in the Beijing Olympic games. He is the hot favorite to win most of the swimming gold medals as he is expected to repeat his previous performance of Athens Olympics.
Year 2004 This American swimmer was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is called MP also. It won’t be wrong to call him a records’ machine. He stunned whole of the world when he won six gold medals in the Athens Olympic games in 2004. In these games he had equaled Alexander Dityatin’s record of winning maximum medals in one Olympic as he had won a total of eight medals that included three golds and and two bronze. But except it he holds many world records. He has remained World Swimmer of the year and American Swimmer of the year for many years.
Before 2004 He became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic when he took part in 200 m Butterfly swimming event in 2000’s Summer Olympics in Sydney. Though he could not win a medal but it became evident that he will ‘rule the pool’ in future. Only five months had passed to the Sydney Olympics when he became the youngest swimmer to break a swimming world record. He set a world record in men’s 200m butterfly and again broke it at the world Championship in Japan. In 2002 he set a world record in 400m individual medley. But it was just a starting many records were yet to follow.
He broke his own world records in 400m medley twice, first was in June 2003 and second in July 2004. But 2004’s Summer Olympic games in Athens was the time when whole of the world saw the rising of a new sport’s star as he won most of the swimming gold medals while making world records. In 2007’s World Championship he made five new world records and won seven gold medals.
