article written by paramjeet.
Campaign These days a general campaign is going on in Assam, the north-eastern state of India bordering Bangladesh. People of the state of Assam have risen up against the illegal Bangladeshi occupants in the reason who have been living in the state for many years and have even succeeded in getting the voter identity cards issued by the Election Commission of India. There are crores of Bangladeshis who have entered into Indian without legal documents and are living for years. North eastern state are worst hit by the illegal migration that has forced the local population to rise against the menace.
Public Local people, all the political parties are supporting the campaign. Student unions are carrying out the operations of finding out the illegal immigrants and pushing them into Bangladeshi territory. BJP is also backing the movement as anti-Bangladeshi campaign is one of the issue listed in its election manifesto According to secret agencies there are more than 4 crore illegal Bangladeshis living in India. Though public has its own reasons against the illegal immigrants but government is also worried about it as it is the biggest security threat to the country. It must be noted that some years ago a Pakistani national had entered into Indian through Bangladeshi border and had succeeded in fighting a state assembly election.
Security In recent years it has been noted that Islamic militants backed by Pakistan’s notorious secret agency ISI are using Bangladesh and Nepal route to infiltrate into India and carryout terrorist and destructive activities. There are many such incidents in which Bangladeshis have be caught who had actively participated in them or helped the militants. There is not enough security on the Indo-Bangladeshi border that can prevent the illegal migration. That is why illegal immigration has increased to an alarming level which has forced the public of Assam to rise against it.
Politics For illegal, immigration many political parties are responsible also. In some regions of the north-eastern states illegal Bangladeshis play an important role in the elections. Some political parties have allowed and even helped the Bangladeshis to get the voter cards so as to increase their vote bank. If this trend is not prevented then a day will come when local people will be governed by some Bangladeshi Chief Minister who will be elected by the majority community of Bangladeshis.
