Semifinal Indian boxer Vijender Kumar could not convert his possibilities of winning a silver or gold medal into reality in the Beijing Olympics as he lost to Cuba’s Emilio Correa Bayeaux in the semifinal of middleweight (75kg) bout on Friday. But his defeat has not disappointed the Indian as his bronze medal is first-ever boxing medal for India in Olympics

india-at-beijing-olympics72.jpeg

Match Summary Is was a closely contested match as for as the points are concerned. Vijender had lost the first round by 2-0. But at the end of the second round he reduced the margin by 3-4. But in the Third round Cuban bounced back and increased the lead by 7-3. Emilio used the strategy of back-paddling after landing punches. All his punched were straight and precise. His strategy thwarted all the efforts of Vijender who once again failed to score in the third round. In the fourth and the decider round Vijender was more offensive by he could not score enough points to win the game. Emilio committed a foul and was awarded a two point penalty the reduced the difference between points by 8-5.

india-at-beijing-olympics71.jpeg

Comparison Emilio was clearly a better boxer than Vijender as he did not allow him to land even a single blow in the first, second and fourth rounds. Vijender could not take advantage of his height as the Cuban played form a distance. Emilio’s quick footwork, reach straight and strong punches paid him rich dividends. Vijender easily avoided his right punches but could escape the strong left punches.

Vijender Though he has lost the semifinal but has promised to his countrymen that he will won the gold in the London Olympics for the country. According to Indian Express he has said, “I’m very upset and want to say sorry to all for I could not win the bout. But I promise to come back in 2012 Olympics and beat this guy and win gold.”

Record Beijing Olympics have reveled that Indian boxers can compete at the world level. In this Olympics, three Indian boxers had reached the quarter finals which in itself is a big achievement. Except it India has won gold and two bronze medals that is its best record as for as the Olympic games are concerned.

Pak’s Independence Gifts to India

Friday, 22nd August, 2008

Independence Day India and Pakistan have celebrated their 61st  independence day on the 15th and 14th August.  Both the countries were the part of united Indian under the colonial rule of Britishers. They got independence on the midnight of 14-15 August 1947. United India was divided into two parts on the basis of religion. Muslims migrated to Pakistan and Hindus and Sikhs to India. Thousands of people died during migration because of communal clashes. Since then both the countries have remained always at logger heads with each other. They have fought four wars since then in which Pakistan always attacked and was defeated by India. Kashmir has always soured the relations between both of the countries. India is a world largest democracy and an emerging economy on the other hand Pakistan was ruled mostly by Military, directly and indirectly that has brought the country almost to the verge of a failed state.

pak-independence-gifts-to-india1.jpeg

Pak Rulers Pakistan’s rulers have always tried to destabilize India by instigating the communal feeling in all parts of India. Whether it was state of Punjab or Jammu and Kashmir they have always helped the militant organizations to carry out destructive activities and have raised voices in favor of militants organizations at the international level. Latest such attempt was seen when on the eve of independence day their ‘disputed’ President raised the issue of Kashmir in his address to his nation. He went to such an extent that India had to show protest at the international level. Pakistani President P. Musharaf raised the Kashmir issue twice. But on the other hand their Prime Minister was talking about to do more to normalize the relations with India and go ahead with the peace process.

pak-independence-gifts-to-india2.jpeg

Ceasefire Violations In another incident Pak military once again violated the ceasefire agreement  when both of the countries are celebrating their Independence days. According to the Indian security agencies Pakistani troops attacked  two Indian military and BSF positions with mortars and rockets in the Jammu region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It must be borne in mind that both the countries had agreed in 2003  to keep peace on the LoC and solve all the issues by dialog. But since the month of June Pak military has many times violated the cease fire. One the other hand Indian Prime Minister in his address to the nation has warned Pakistan that if it keeps on interfering in  India’s internal matters then it will affect the peace process adversely.

Medal Wednesday proved to be a very good day for India in the Beijing Olympic games. On this day India won its second medal in the games. It was wrestler Sushil Kumar who won the bronze medal for his country in the 66 kg freestyle wrestling event. The second news that brought cheers to the Indian faces was the win of boxer Vijender Kumar in the quarter final round that ensured India another medal. His entry into the semifinal has ensured India its first Olympic medal in the game of Boxing. India had narrowly missed a medal in Boxing in the Athens Olympics when Boxer Gurcharan Singh had lost the match with a very narrow margin.

india-at-beijing-olympics62.jpeg

Hopes But in the Beijing Olympics Indians were very hopeful of winning a medal in the game of boxing as three of its boxer had stormed into the quarterfinals. Indian hopes were dashed when Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar perished in the quarterfinal rounds of their respected categories. In was only Vijender Kumar, on whom Indian hopes were resting now. And he did not disappoint his countrymen. Sushil Kumar’s bronze medal had fired him up.

india-at-beijing-olympics63.jpeg

Quarterfinal He fought against his Ecuadorian opponent Carlos Gongora and defeated him by 9-4. He dominated in all the rounds and won the match with a huge margin that shows his class. He fought a tactical bout with patience. He won the first round by 2-0. He had grabbed these points by a left hook and an undercut. He won the second round by the margin of 4-1 points. He played both attacking and defensive game. In all of the three rounds he gained points by attacking his opponent first and then withdrawing. He widened the point margin by following the same tactics. He won the third round by 7-1. He will fight against Cuba’s Emilio Correa in the semi-final. Vijender had lost in the first round in the Athens Olympics.

Boxing is a family tradition for Vijender’s family. His grandfather and his father all are associated with the game. His father was a national level boxer. On the other hand Emilio Correa is son of Emilio Correa Vailant , who is a welterweight gold medalist in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

indian-governments-i-day-gift-to-employees3.jpeg

Employees and Analysts On the other hand employees unions as well as  armed forces are not happy with the government decision as they were expecting over 40 per cent hike one average except allowances.

But analysts have expressed their concerns additional burden will lead to more government borrowing and state governments too will follow it that will affect India’s investment grade credit rating. It will also affect the inflation that has already crossed the 12 per cent mark.

India at Beijing Olympics(5)

Wednesday, 20th August, 2008

Bronze Grappler Sushil Kumar became the second Indian to win a medal in wrestling after Kashabha Jadhav who had won bronze medal in 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. It is after 56 years that India has won a medal in Wrestling. India had a very few hopes of winning another medal in the Beijing Olympics as almost all of the Indian players, except boxers, could not reach even the quarterfinal rounds of their respected games. No one had expected that Sushil Kumar will win a medal in wrestling after his first round loss to Andriy Stadnik of Ukraine. He could not give a tough challenge to the Ukrainian and was easily defeated by a big margin. Stadnik dominated during all of the rounds and Sushil proved out be a mismatch to his challenge. The final score was 8-1.

india-at-beijing-olympics1.jpeg

india-at-beijing-olympics3.jpeg

Sushil defeated Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan in the third round. Sushil had grabbed to technical points in the first round as compared to Leonid’s one point.. In the second round none of them could gain a point. But Sushil won the third and decisive round by one point and while Leonid could not score any point.

Rains Playing Havoc In India

Wednesday, 20th August, 2008

Rains In most of the states of India rainy season increases woes of most of the population. There are only a few state which have tamed the rivers that used to bring havoc in the past. When it is the rainy season hundreds of people die because of the reasons that are related to incessant rains. One of the major reason is floods. We have seen that during the first week of July when rainy season was in its initial stages, more than hundred people had died in some some north-eastern states that included West Bengal and millions were displaced or marooned because of floods especially in Brahmaputra river.

rains-playing-hevoc-in-india1.jpeg

Building Collapse Last years many people had died in Mumbai because of incessant rains that had caused floods. This year it has happened but administration had done a lot of work in advance to prevent such kind catastrophe from happening. But 20 person have died and many got injured when a four-storey building collapsed on Wednesday in south Mumbai. Administration had already declared it a dangerous building and had asked the tenants to evict it. This kind of incidents happen every year in India when old buildings collapse during the rainy season.

rains-playing-hevoc-in-india2.jpeg

Rising Waters More than 65 persons have been killed in Andhra Pradesh because of floods in rivers and water bodies of 15 districts of the state . Because of rising water in the Kolleru lake  thousands of people were affected and lakhs of hectares crop has been damaged because of floods. 175 relief camps had been opened for the flood affected people. On August 10 a lorry carrying 30 persons had washed away in a seasonal river water in which only 11 persons had swam to safety and seven had died . Fate of remaining 12 persons was unknown.

rains-playing-hevoc-in-india3.jpeg

Floods Because of incessant rains in Orissa and West Bengal three people had died and many were missing . Situation had become acute as most of the seasonal and small rivers were also rising. It happens every year and hundreds of people die because of floods. Except some of the northers state, all of the remaining states face similar situation every year in which hundreds of people die and property worth billions of rupees get damaged. Though government lefts no stone unturned to help the affected people but a lot should be done to counter the situation. Small dams should be made on all of the rivers so  that  flow of water can be controlled for some time and thus rising water will not bring play a havoc in the rainy season.

Wrestling As the Olympics games in Beijing have progressed India’s hopes of winning another medal have also dashed. Some Indian players had succeeded in reaching the quarterfinal round of their respective games but could not won their quarterfinal rounds that could have assured at least a bronze medal. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt missed the medal with a very narrow margin as he was defeated by the Japan’s Kenichi Yumoto in the 60kg freestyle category by 2-1. He had won the first round by 1-0 but could not contain the lead in the second round as his opponent equaled the points by winning four points. In the decisive third round he had taken the earlier lead by winning one point but could not hold on to it as his opponent earned two points in the last 10 seconds of the games that decided the result of the match. He had beaten Kazakhstan’s Baurzhan Orazgaliyeb by 3-1 in the pre-quarterfinal round.

india-at-beijing-olympics32.jpeg

Boxing Earlier Indian were cheered to hear the news that three of the Indian boxers have succeeded in reaching the quarterfinal rounds of their respective categories. It had raised hopes of winning first medal in boxing which Indian had narrowly missed in Athens Olympics. But Akhil Kumar, who had qualified in the bantamweight class, lost to Gojan of Moldova by 3-10 in the quarterfinal played on August 18. He could not break Moldova’s defense by his unorthodox methods and paid the price for his attacking and less defensive game tactics. Till the end of second round both the boxers were equally placed 2-1. But by the end of the third round, Akhil was trailing by 2-6. In the fourth and decisive round he could not do well and lost the match. He had defeated world champion Sergey Vodopyanov and 2005’s bronze medalist Ali Hallab in the earlier rounds. Rest of the boxers are yet to play their matches.

india-at-beijing-olympics33.jpeg

Others India’s Melbourne Commonwealth Games gold medalist winner paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal defeated Spaniard Alfredo Carneros 4-2 in the first round of men’s singles table tennis event at the Beijing Olympics played on Tuesday. He had lost he opening game but won the rest except the fourth. Another huge disappointment to the Indian athletics was failure of woman long-jumper Anju Bobby George who could not qualify for the final. All her attempts were fouls. She had won bronze medal in 2003’s World Championship.

Clashes in J&K -15 Die

Tuesday, 19th August, 2008

Clashes Fifteen protesters died in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday when security personal opened fire on the violent protesters in various parts of the state. Both of the regions have stood up against each other because of the land transfer issue. In both parts hard line political parties have exploited the issue which has flared the public angers. State and Center governments, Hurriyat and Hindu Organizations are equally responsible for whole of the communal rift between both of the regions, damage to the public and private property and losses of many human lives. State government failed to handle the crisis when it was in its initial stages. Center government ignored the situation for almost one month. Hurriyat misguided the Kashmiri people on the issue of land transfer which forced the government to roll back its earlier decision and it was followed by Jammu agitations headed by radical Hindu organizations.

clashes-in-jk-15-die1.jpeg

Kashmir Protests A Hurriyat leader named Abdul Aziz Sheikh with five supporters had died in police firing when he was leading a cavalcade of apple laden trucks towards Muzaffarabad-a PoK city-as a protest to the blockade of national highway by the Jammu agitators. After it, situation in Kashmir has become vary tense. Hundreds of people have got injured because of clashes between police and protesters. Tuesday, August 12, turned out to be one of the worst days in the history of the state as 15 persons have died in the state because not only because of police-protester clashes but because of communal clashes between two communities.

clashes-in-jk-15-die2.jpeg

Communal Clashes Three protesters died in the Lajson town of Kashmir when they attacked the house of a PDP leader. Three protesters died in Paribal when they were pelted stones in an isolated military picket and did not disperse despite repeated appeals by the soldiers. But one of the worst incident happened in Kishatwar town of Kashmir when a mob attacked houses of Hindu minority. Police had to open fire to prevent any major incident from happening. Two persons had died in the incident. It must be noted that Kashmir is a Muslim dominated area and Jammu is dominate by Hindus.

clashes-in-jk-15-die3.jpeg

Blockade Hurriyat has misguided the people of Kashmir by raising the issue of economic blockade which has not happened on the ground. Hundreds of trucks have passed to both of the sides on the national highway. And military has provided them adequate security. The issue of ‘economic blockade’ is a brain child of of ISI backed Hurriyat leaders for which ignorant public of Kashmir is paying the price.

Anti-Bangladeshi Drive in Assam

Monday, 18th August, 2008

anti-bangladeshi-drive-in-assam3.jpeg

Campaign These days a general campaign is going on in Assam, the north-eastern state of India bordering Bangladesh. People of the state of Assam have risen up against the illegal Bangladeshi occupants in the reason who have been living in the state for many years and have even succeeded in getting the voter identity cards issued by the Election Commission of India. There are crores of Bangladeshis who have entered into Indian without legal documents and are living for years. North eastern state are worst hit by the illegal migration that has forced the local population to rise against the menace.

anti-bangladeshi-drive-in-assam2.jpeg

Public Local people, all the political parties are supporting the campaign. Student unions are carrying out the operations of finding out the illegal immigrants and pushing them into Bangladeshi territory. BJP is also backing the movement as anti-Bangladeshi campaign is one of the issue listed in its election manifesto According to secret agencies there are more than 4 crore illegal Bangladeshis living in India. Though public has its own reasons against the illegal immigrants but government is also worried about it as it is the biggest security threat to the country. It must be noted that some years ago a Pakistani national had entered into Indian through Bangladeshi border and had succeeded in fighting a state assembly election.

anti-bangladeshi-drive-in-assam1.jpeg

Security In recent years it has been noted that Islamic militants backed by Pakistan’s notorious secret agency ISI are using Bangladesh and Nepal route to infiltrate into India and carryout terrorist and destructive activities. There are many such incidents in which Bangladeshis have be caught who had actively participated in them or helped the militants. There is not enough security on the Indo-Bangladeshi border that can prevent the illegal migration. That is why illegal immigration has increased to an alarming level which has forced the public of Assam to rise against it.

Politics For illegal, immigration many political parties are responsible also. In some regions of the north-eastern states illegal Bangladeshis play an important role in the elections. Some political parties have allowed and even helped the Bangladeshis to get the voter cards so as to increase their vote bank. If this trend is not prevented then a day will come when local people will be governed by some Bangladeshi Chief Minister who will be elected by the majority community of Bangladeshis.

5 Farmers Die in Police Firing in Noida

Monday, 18th August, 2008

Clash 5 farmers have died and more than 100 farmers have been injured in cross-firing and violent clashes between police and farmers in Greater Noida, on Wednesday on August 13.  it is being said that condition of 15 persons is critical. More than two dozen policemen have also been injured in the incident. According to police sources only three people have died in the incident. Police had erected strong barricades made of bamboo and teen sheets to stop the agitating farmers. It was being expected that farmers will not be able to cross these barricades. But these barricades could not keep the farmers held even for a minute. Farmers had come to the spot in more than 45 tractors.

5-farmers-die-in-police-firing-in-noida1.jpeg

Farmers More than 2000 Farmers-mostly residents of Ghori Bachhera of Greater Noida-had gathered  there who were demanding adequate compensation to be paid to them for the land acquired by the state government. In 2006 land was acquired at Rs 450 per sq. m and in 2007 Rs. 850 were paid for every sq. m. Those farmers who had sold their land in the 2003 and 2005 were demanding compensation equal to the compensation awarded in 2008. According to the government sources their demands had been reviewed twice but they were demanding more.

5-farmers-die-in-police-firing-in-noida2.jpeg

Violence According to the police sources farmers had brought with them fire arms and lathis also. Police used tear gas shells to disperse the agitating farmers. But when the agitation became violent police resorted to baton-charge. When  it too failed to stop the violent farmers police opened fire in which five persons died on the spot. But according to farmers more than 6 people have died in the police firing. Violent farmers tried to overrun their tractors over some of the policemen. They also damaged some vehicles standing nearby which included a car and two police jeeps.

5-farmers-die-in-police-firing-in-noida3.jpeg

Politics This incident has raised some questions. When farmers had twice been provided with reviewed compensation then why they organized a violent agitation. And why the police personal did not resort to minimum use of force. Some people have started to exploit the situation politically who  were till now sleeping and the incident have provided them with an issue for the coming elections.

Hurriyat Leader Killed in Police Firing

Sunday, 17th August, 2008

March A separatist Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed on Monday in police firing. He was leading the march of thousands of protesters who were marching towards the PoK. A total of five people have died and more than 150 got injured in the police action when they used tear gas shells, lathicharge and fired at the violent protesters. People were marching towards PoK as a protest to the so called ‘economic’ blockade of the valley by the Jammu Hindu population. Hurriyat and some main stream political parties had given a call for the march in support of the apple growers . It was supported by Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kashmir Fruit Growers’ Association, Traders Federation and Lashkar-e-Toiba- a terrorist group.

hurriyat-leader-killed-in-police-firing1.jpeg

Action State administration had placed some top Hurriyat and PDP leaders in house arrest on Sunday night as a move to prevent them from joining the Muzaffrabad march on Monday morning. Protesters were demanding opening of the road link between both of the divided parts of Kashmir so that they can sell their main crop of apples in the open market by the alternative road link as traffic between Jammu and Kashmir has severely been affected because of the Jammu agitations. Police deflated tires of some trucks and used tear gas shells when they were taking out a large cavalcade of fruit laden trucks towards Muzaffrabad.

hurriyat-leader-killed-in-police-firing2.jpeg

Government Hurriyat has exploited the land transfer issue by portraying it as an India vs Kashmir Issue. But the way in which Jammu nationalists protested the revocation orders everyone was stunned to see the development. Hurriyat and PDP is mainly responsible for the present crisis in the valley. But the situation has raised some questions also about the Center government’s stand to address the issue. It is the history that Congress led government’s have never handled the Kashmir issue properly. When the state was burning they were busy playing political maneuvers in Delhi to save their government.

Record Michael Phelps became one of the only five athletes who have won nine Olympic gold medals. He won three gold medals in Beijing Olympics on August 12, 2008 in swimming and with it has become the record holder. There are eight swimming events in which he had qualified to compete in the Beijing Olympic games. He is the hot favorite to win most of the swimming gold medals as he is expected to repeat his previous performance of Athens Olympics.

michael-phelps-world-records-machine1.jpeg

Year 2004 This American swimmer was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is called MP also. It won’t be wrong to call him a records’ machine. He stunned whole of the world when he won six gold medals in the Athens Olympic games in 2004. In these games he had equaled Alexander Dityatin’s record of winning maximum medals in one Olympic as he had won a total of eight medals that included three golds and and two bronze. But except it he holds many  world records. He has remained World Swimmer of the year and American Swimmer of the year for many years.

michael-phelps-world-records-machine2.jpeg

Before 2004 He became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic when he took part in 200 m Butterfly  swimming event in 2000’s Summer Olympics in Sydney. Though he could not win a medal but it became evident that he will ‘rule the pool’ in future. Only five months had passed to the Sydney Olympics when he became the youngest swimmer to break a  swimming world record. He set a world record in men’s 200m butterfly and again broke it at the world Championship in Japan. In 2002 he set a world record in 400m individual medley. But it was just a starting many records were yet to follow.

He broke his own world records in 400m medley twice, first was in June 2003 and second in July 2004. But 2004’s Summer Olympic games in Athens was the time when whole of the world saw the rising of a new sport’s star as he won most of the swimming gold medals while making world records. In 2007’s World Championship he made five new world records and won seven gold medals.
