Zardari Or Musharraf-Pakistan Is The Loser

Alliance With victory of anti-Musharraf parties in the general elections in Pakistan, everyone had expect that days of suppressive military rule will end very soon and democracy will return to Pakistan. Alliance between Nawaz Sharif led PML and PPP confirmed that the days of Musharraf’s ruled are limited. But, what happened next, neither the Pakistanis not the international community had expected. PML and PPP had entered into alliance with the motifs of forcing Musharraf to resign and to restore the forcefully sacked judges. Determination for restoration of democracy and unity of both of the parties forced President Musharraf to resign. But Asif Ali Zardari led PPP did nothing to restore the sacked judges. Zardari backtracked form his promise to restore the sacked Supreme Court judge which forced Nawaz Sharif to leave the alliance. Constitution Amendments Both the parties had entered into the alliance with the motif of repairing the constitution which had been damaged by Musharraf’s unlawful amendments. Musharraf’s amendments had given excessive powers to the President which are not favorable to the democracy in Pakistan. Sharif wanted to amend the constitution so that in future President won’t be able to force the downfall of an elected government. It must be learnt that most of the elected governments of Pakistan never completed their full tenure and were dissolved by the president. Constitutional amendments suggested by Nawaz Sharif are necessary for strengthening the democracy in Pakistan.   Democracy But Zardari has not kept his promise. He has been declared PPP’s presidential candidate. It is being expected that he easily will won the election. Thus he has paved the way for himself of becoming the first civilian dictator of Pakistan. If he becomes the President of Pakistan he will become the most powerful person of Pakistan. In such circumstances he will be the most powerful person of Pakistan even if compared to the previous military generals. But both the public of the Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif are feeling cheated. Though he has started to restore the sacked judges in a phased manner and to some extent has won the public hearts. But he has not restored the sacked Chief Justice of SC Iftikhar Ali Chaudhary, who had lead the strongest agitations against the military dictator. Restoration of sacked judges is being seen as only the political move of Zardari to defuse the public pressure. He, with his one move has [...]

Only 10% Work Done In Flood Affected Bihar

Unexpected More than 15 days have passed and there is no sign of water receding in the flood affected areas of Bihar. Neither state government nor the people were ready to meet such a wide spread devastation Though floods are caused by monsoon every year in Bihar but Kosi floods have shook not the state by also the nation. People are dying not only because of drowning but also because of hunger and floods related illnesses. These floods have affected more than 30,00,000 people and till now almost 6,00,000 have been evacuated and 2, 00,000 have been shifted to the relief camps.   Rescue And Relief State as well as Center government’s inept response have increased the woes of the flood affected people. Center government took one week to declare the Bihar floods a national calamity And 5 columns of military were sent to the flood affected areas to carry out the relief and rescue operations. Soon, government realized that it is not enough to carry out the relief work. 16 more columns of army were pressed into action. Except it Air force and Navy personal have also been pressed into action. It is being said that it will take two days to evacuated the remaining affected people. But relief and rescue work does not end here. It is just the initial stage of the work.   Priorities Second most important priority of the government is to establish well organized relief camps with proper facilities. And it is not an easy task to build relief camps for lakhs of people. After it, the priority should be given to ensure the proper and adequate supply of relief material. As there are reports that most of the flood affected people are suffering from the flood related ailments it becomes the necessity that they should be provided proper health care immediately. It will take months to recede the water and only then affected people will be able to return to their homes. As incidents of loot and stealing have been reported in some areas it becomes necessary for the government to ensure safety of the people in relief camps and their abandoned homes. On the other hand floods have brought many others social problems with them as child trafficking.   All these problems can be tackled under a well organized central command. But till now government has failed even to rescue the marooned [...]
