Suspension Of Students-Lack Of Vision

Friday, 5th September, 2008

Suspension Suspension of seven class XII students for 20 days by St Xavier’s school authorities has severely shook the Hindu community. There offense is only it that during the recess  they were enacting mock puja (worship) of Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. They had also posted a poster on the black board. While they were doing mockery whole of the class was enjoying their action. The school management suspended the students for breaching school discipline. Parents of the students were called and were informed about the incident and the action taken by the school management. Despite repeated requests by the parents school administration did buzz from the strict stand.

Communal Flare-Up Though it is related with the discipline of an educational institution but it has indirectly incited the Hindu emotions. School administration’s strict action has prepared another ground for communal flare-up.  St Xavier’s school is one of the reputed and oldest missionary school in Jaipur. Many Christian missionary educational institutes are working in the field of education in India and their contribution in imparting quality education can not be denied. But at the same time they are considered as a big threat for the religion by the Hindus. Recently, many incidents have happened that has revealed the rivalry between and Hindus and Christians. Clashes between Hindus and Christians in Orissa are the perfect example of this rivalry.

Communal Colors Suspension of the students by the school management has provided an opportunity to the saffron radical outfits to come against the missionary management. It can assume a communal color if the management does not roll back its decision which is being considered too harsh to the offense. Students were performing puja (worship) only during the recess time and it can not be considered a wrong doing.  Principal Fr Jose Jacob’s personal interest in the matter has raised the eyebrows of sensitive people. How  a principal can take such a harsh decision against those students who were just playing during the free time. It only indicates that he does not have a ’soft’ corner for the non-Christians. It is his lack of vision that can turn a peaceful situation in a state into Orissa like crisis.
