Expulsion
Infamous BJP MP Babubhai Katara, who was found involved in a human trafficking case was expelled from the 14th Lok Sabha on Tuesday. On Monday a Lok Sabha panel had recommended his expulsion for ‘grave misconduct’. In the resolution he was held guilty of committing an act of grave misconduct which has brought disrepute and maligned the image of the entire fraternity of legislators’. House has completed the ‘ most unpleasant job’ to keep the image of the ‘great institution’ protected. Delhi airport authorities had arrested him in April last year along with a woman and a boy to whom he was allegedly trying to take abroad using the passports of his wife and son.

Background
He had been elected from the Dohad (ST) seat of Gujarat as a BJP MP. He also was the Distt. President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad from Dohad. After his arrest BJP and VHP had snapped their links with him and had expelled him from the primary membership of the organizations. It has been also said that he along with his son had allegedly participated in Gujarat riots of 2002. He has become the 11th MP who has been expelled from the current term of Parliament. Earlier some Members of Parliament had been expelled from membership because of their anti-party acts.

Parliament has taken a very right decision which has restored Indian people’s belief in their ‘largest democracy’. Expulsion of 11 parliament members indicate that Indian democracy has a strong will and power to free itself from Katara like ‘criminals’. But India will have to go a long way to achieve this target. But recent months’ developments have presented the adverse view. Cash-for-scam has already shaken the belief of people. Though Katara expulsion has given a little relief to the worried Indians but criminal Members’ participation in the voting for trust motion is a big dent on ‘the image of the great institution’. And for that act, ‘Mr. Clean’ PM Manmohan Singh is also responsible to some extent. Will Indian Parliament take action against SP leader, against whom bribery charges have been made? If wads of currency can reach Parliament then one can assume that politics is the most lucrative ‘occupation’ that is drawing ‘ criminals’ towards itself.
