Army court orders woman officer`s dismissal: An army court took a decision against a woman officer who alleged three seniors. Army court took near about five months to take this decision. An Army court ordered to fire woman officer from the service. The army officer Poonam Kaur has been removed from the position because of falsely blaming her seniors. She had allegated falsely three officers of her unit that they had mentally and sexually harassed her. She blamed her superiors last year. On July 15, 2008 she alleged three officers of her unit 5682 Battalion of the army supply corps based in Kalka, Haryana for harassment. The officers whom she accused are Col RK Sharma, Lt Col Chawla and Major Suraj Bhan. A COI ordered to investigate the charges against superiors. The investigation report concluded there was no basis for these charges and recommend court martial against her false charges. The army court has taken decision after five months of hearing. The court martial had assembled in Division head quarter at Patiala in Punjab gave order on July 10, 2009 that Poonam Kaur be sacked. Captain Kaur had been charged on 10 counts including disobedience, making false allegation against her superior officers etc. Army court decision which came after about five months hearing will send their decision to Western Army Commander Lt. gen. TK Sapru for confirmation.
Second woman officer court-martialed: Poonam Kaur is not only the woman officer who is court martial led by army court. There was another woman officer who was court martial led before her but her court martial was stayed. Poonam is the second woman officer in the history of army court who is to be martial-led. The first woman officer was Dimple Singla. She was court martial led in 2006. The allegation on her was that she was evolved in corruption with the judge advocate General Branch of the army. Dimple Singla’s court martial was stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2007.
Aggarwal protest Poonam Kaur: The kaur’s counsel, Colonel (retired) S k Aggarwal claimed that Poonam Kaur charges were never investigated by COI. He said allegations against three officers have been tried to hide. He said that army authorities never looked into them during investigation. He also stand by the statement that Poonam Kaur never addressed media for service matters. He said she never mentioned in front of media about the sexual harassment allegation against three officers. He said people would have never known what is happening in Army and the ladies are not safe. He said army court decision was too harsh even if she was found guilty.
