India Thrashes Sri Lanka To Open 1-0 Series Lead

India thrashes Sri Lanka to open 1-0 series lead: Today India registered a historical victory over Sri Lanka in second test match by an inning and 144 runs at the Green Park ground, Kanpur. It is biggest margin win over Sri Lanka surpassing the previous one of an inning and 119 runs in Lucknow in 1994. By this match victory India has become sixth country to win 100 test matches and also taken a lead of 1-0 in the series of three matches. At the end of third day game Sri Lanka were trailing by 356 runs from Indian first inning total of 642. Sri Lanka team did not play well: Sri Lanka started the fourth day play from its previous day score of 57 for 4 following the follow on. Till lunch time Sri Lankan team had lost four more wickets and had added 149 runs to previous day score. Sri Lanka lost fifth wicket as Mathews when he was at just 15 runs and caught by Dravid on the ball of Zaheer Khan. P Jayawardene joined to Samaraweera in middle and made a partnership of 61 runs for the sixth wicket. Then soon he was sent back to pavilion by Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh. Herath came to take place of P Jayawardene but failed to do much and given out as leg before the wicket on bowling of Harbhajan when he was at an individual score of 13 runs. Muralitharan was the next batsman and added 29 runs for the team including 3 fours and 2 sixes at just 11 balls. Soon he was also sent back to pavilion by Ojha. After him Mendis came in when Sri Lanka was at 191 for 8 and started contributing for the team. Sri Lanka reached at a score of 206 for 8 at lunch time. Mendis and Samaraweera trying for their team made a partnership 73 runs and lost Mendis as ninth wicket when Sri Lanka was at 264. Last man Welegedara also failed to add more and Sri Lanka was all out at a total of 269 runs. Samaraweera was unbeaten at 78 runs with the help of 11 fours. Indian bowlers are great: In the second inning Harbhajan Singh shown excellent bowling taking 3 wickets and Ojha got 2 wickets for the team.
