Wink a multi function e-book reader is published on Thursday by EC Media International a Bangalore based digital publisher, the book is published supporting 15 languages and also 200,000 book titles will be offered is the debut. To access e-reading contents of your own choice Wink offers a one stop e store to consumers via www.thewinkstore .com. Not only e-books but also newspapers, journals, selected articles and magazines can be accessed on e-reader, it is said by the EC Media. It will give an access to Indians to the books which are not available in India, titles from international aggregators are also acquired. The chief executive and founder of DC Group Ravi DeeCee, the promoter of EC media and DC Books Kerala-based publishing house said that they aim to give a revolution to the way the people read with the launch of e-reader Wink. The favourite contents of the people can be accessed at anytime, anywhere and also in the language they choose. Wink Wire is another offer for news, it is the first of its kind e-reader newspaper in our country. For Wink Wire, EC media got the alliance of IANS, our country’s largest news service. The executives of EC media said that though e-reader is primarily designed for reading digital books and periodicals but music can also be listened, even play games and e-mails can be checked by the readers. To display the content to readers e-ink technology is used in e-reader, portability, substantial battery life and strain-free reading are main advantages of the e-reader, even in bright sunlight it can be read. Chief operating officer, Pardeep Palazhi of EC Media said that they will succeed in attaining the vision of enabling the growth of provision of contents through electronic media by influencing the Eco system with aggregators and publishers of their global tie-ups with the launching of the Wink. The aim of the group is to help the authors and the publishers influencing the new platform, the process publishing is simplified, the book goes directly to printing from the draft and also providing them a large number of audience. So far, Roli, Penguin, Harper Collins, Oxford University and Permanent Black the top publishers are enrolled by the Wink for the contents. In the beginning with some magazines and newspapers, over 100,000 titles are accessed and provided. The Tata Group promoted the electronics mega store, Croma is also having a tie up with this Group, as a retail partner. And its distribution partner the Redington is also roped. It seems to be a resourceful investment from consumers’ perspective. With the varieties of offerings e reader will enhance the reading experience of the readers. Working of E Reader:

E Reader in Market:
Its sale will be started on 1st Sept., 2010 with its Wink XTS model which will be provided for Rs. 11,500, with a screen of 6-inches where the contents can be seen using e-ink technology. Which will give an actual printed book appearance. The display is not like LCD on the i-Pad back lit, but the light is needed to read this, just as we are reading a book. The display is also readable indoor as well as in sunlight. It is just 11 mm thin and weight of the e-reader is just like a novel of Sidny Sheldon. E-ink display is having a low power consumption. The battery can run continuously for 300 hrs if fully charged. Which is a great thing. 2GB built in memory is there and a slot for an SD card expansion is also provided. An ear phone jack of 3.5mm and a mini USB port is also provided at the bottom of the e-reader. It can be used as a MP3 player also. From a computer books can be transferred and USB cable can be used for charging. The XTS model is supported by Wi-Fi and X3G model also supports Wi-Fi and 3G costs Rs. 15,000. The device includes RTF, TXT, DOC, PDF, A QWERTY and HTML key board where you can search the words within the books. A mail client is also provided if you want to use to send or receive the e mails. The fast typing with a speed more than 10-15 words per minutes resulted in missing characters and felt irritating. We hope that the version for sale on stores will be taken care of these negligence’s.
